"The Laws of the Game are intended to provide that games should be played with as little interference as possible, and in this view it is the duty of Referees to penalize only deliberate breaches of the Law. Constant whistling for trifling and doubtful breaches produces bad feeling and loss of temper on the part of players and spoils the pleasure of the spectators."

LAW 5, International Board Decision 8

April Thunderstorms

Handling of Games during Lightning disturbances.

a. When Thunder is heard or a cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning. Suspend play and take shelter immediately.

b. Thirty- minute Rule - Once play has been suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or flash of lightning is witnessed prior to resuming play.

c. Any subsequent thunder or lightning after the beginning of the 30 minute count, reset the clock and another 30 minute count should begin.

Unless it is either some type of Medical Alert tag or a Religious piece, players cannot wear it. If it is one of the two listed: a) needs to be taped to the body and b) you do not think it will pose a danger to player wearing it or other players.
Players cannot “tape” ear-rings, nose or lip rings. Refer to Rule 4 in your book for more information.

Just a Quick Note

All cards (Cautions and Disqualifications) must be reported to GISA. They do keep track cautions.

Please remember rosters are required (GHSA and GISA JV and Varsity matches) prior to begining the contest. Do not start the game until you have rosters.

Dressing rooms / changing rooms - have not heard of any problems thus far (please keep in mind this is a GHSA policy and does not apply to GISA contests).

More Communication Opportunities for High School Soccer Coaches with Players

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (February 7, 2013) — Clarifying when and how coaches can communicate with players highlighted the high school soccer rules changes approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Soccer Rules Committee at its January 21-23 meeting in Indianapolis. These changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

Point of Emphasis for this Season

1. Work the game and be gone. No'atta-boys/girls" from the coaches / players etc.

2. Rosters required before the game starts - no exceptions
Everybody in the teams bench area, must be on the roster - no exceptions
Do not start the game until you get a roster - again, no exceptions

3. Watch what you say and what you do
Everybody has a "smart-phone" with a camera.
Don't end up on you-tube, as we all look bad in this scenario.
